WHY CONSIDER MINISTRY IN NEW ENGLAND?

There is a great opportunity and need for the gospel to transform New England.

Gallup polls place the six states of New England in the top ten least religious states in the nation, including the top four (Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts)

  • According to the Barna Group, the five most post-Christian cities in America are all located in New England: Springfield, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; Providence, Rhode Island; Burlington, Vermont; and Boston, Massachusetts.

  • Only 1-3% of the population attends an evangelical church

  • In more rural communities, it is not uncommon for there to be only one or no evangelical church at all.

Alliance New England is a Christ-centered, Acts 1:8 family. As a part of this family, you will find community, care, resources, developmental opportunities and challenge.

  • Our pastors meet together regularly in geographic clusters for purposes of prayer, development, personal connection and collective mission.

  • Leaders are available to walk alongside you and your church through the ups and downs of ministry and life.

  • We are a regional district of The Christian & Missionary Alliance, a world-wide global movement more than 6 million strong. There are over 2,000 Alliance churches in the U.S. When you become a part of Alliance New England, you are part of a true movement of God in the world today.

New England is a place of influence.

  • The Boston-metro area has a global role as an innovation hub – a world leader in higher education, advanced R&D, healthcare and life sciences.

  • Boston has a highly skilled workforce and is considered a “knowledge capital” city, often ranked in the top ten of the world, and #1 for biotech and pharmaceuticals, and #2 for medical science and nanotechnology.

  • Over 250,000 students live in the Boston area, with 54 colleges located here.

  • Four Ivy league schools are located in New England

  • Students who come to New England for their education go on to become leaders in medicine, tech, education and law.  Internationals students

  • Return to their home countries.  Reaching a student with the gospel can have national and global impact for Christ.

New England is incredibly diverse in so many ways.

  • Four beautiful and unique seasons – all enjoyable in their unique ways and for the variety of recreation they afford

  • A landscape that ranges from mountain tops to fields & farmland, from deep forests to bustling cityscapes & high-rise skylines, from rugged coastal cliffs to beautiful sandy beaches.

  • Ethnically diverse cities and urban centers.  Among others, Boston, Hartford and Providence are all minority-majority cities.

Pastoral Residencies

Alliance New England is the regional office of the Christian & Missionary Alliance, which serves 50 churches located throughout the six New England States.  Our churches are located in urban, suburban and rural areas; range in size from 30 to 1,200+, worship in multiple languages and approach ministry in a myriad of ways.  Yet together they are working to bring the hope of Jesus Christ and the gospel to all parts of the region.

A residency is an opportunity to cultivate the art of pastoral ministry, gain practical experience and develop key skills while serving in a healthy congregation. Through the approximately two-year experience, a resident is immersed in the life and leadership of the church, with the opportunity to support, lead and develop ministries, serving alongside the senior pastor and lay leaders, all while building their foundation for service to Christ and his Church. This is all conducted with great intentionality, but also in a spirit of providing time and opportunity for observation, experiences, mentorship, development and candid feedback. A pastoral resident may focus on a particular ministry area (i.e. working with youth), multiple ministries (i.e. youth & worship) or in generalized pastoral ministry.

Our residencies are compensated positions and some residencies will include housing.  Candidates should have a strong calling for pastoral leadership, a passion for helping churches in New England reach the unchurched, and a deep desire for mentored development.  A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Bible, Pastoral Ministry or other ministry-related field is preferred but not required.  All candidates must be able to meet licensing requirements with the Christian & Missionary Alliance. At the completion of the residency, the intention is that the resident would seek and find placement in Alliance New England for further ministry as a staff pastor, lead or solo pastor, or church planter.

For more detailed information regarding our residency program, visit our Residency Page.

To be considered for a residency, please forward your resume and any accompanying materials to Shelley Moulton as listed below.
