Happy New Year Friends!

We pray that you have had some time for rest and reflection with the Father these last couple of weeks, as we now jump into a new year of ministry.  May 2017 be a year filled with blessing, peace, and great kingdom fruit – we look forward to traveling alongside you and your ministries!

Ministry Updates

We welcome Frank Chan to Alliance New England!  Frank is the new Pastor at the Greater Boston Chinese Alliance Church in Brighton, MA.  Frank and his wife Nelly began serving at GBCAC on January 1, 2017.

We are excited to introduce Robert and Amy Childs as the new Site Coordinators for the Providence, RI Envision site!  Robert, Amy and their children have been a part of Alliance churches in Ohio and Maine, having served in many ministry roles and explored serving internationally with the C&MA as well.  Instead, God has called them to serve in the US, but cross culturally in an urban environment and we are excited to join them in developing the new Envision Site in Providence!  The Child’s have already begun training for their new role and they will begin fund raising soon, with the plan to relocate from Maine and be on site in Providence this summer.  We will send more details later as they will begin to make contact with our district churches for connection and support.  Please be praying with us for them as they prepare for this new ministry.

District Conference Dates

As you know, we have adjusted the dates for this year’s District Conference in hopes that you will make every effort to attend General Council in Columbus, OH.  The new dates for conference are October 16-18, 2017.  Location to be announced soon.

General Council

President of the C&MA John Stumbo has asked us to make an effort to get our official workers and any interested individuals to General Council 2017, being held in Columbus, OH May 30 – June 4.  You can find more info here Alliance Council.  Typically, we do not have many that attend Council and along with the President we’d like to encourage you to be there this year.  We’d also like to offer financial assistance to any pastor who would not go to Council due to the church’s inability to fund it.  On occasion we are asked if the church should fund the pastor’s attendance at General Council and we believe they should do so if at all possible. Attending Council gives you a picture of the Alliance family and work like nothing else can do. If your church’s financial position simply won’t allow them to do so, please contact Tom and we will contribute toward the cost of getting you there.

Strategic Plans/Regional Clusters

As you may recall from our Fall Cluster gatherings, we asked that you begin drafting a strategic plan for your church with your leadership teams, and that our winter cluster gatherings would be dedicated to discussing and sharing progress on those plans, answering questions and providing other guidance where needed.  These Winter Clusters will be held via on-line video-conference January 18-25 (see schedule details below). You will be able to join from any laptop/PC, telephone or mobile device. To participate via video, you will need a laptop/pc or mobile device that is equipped with a camera and a microphone. We will send you an invitation to join the meeting using Zoom Video Conferencing, and if you haven’t used Zoom before, you may want to visit their website ahead of time to test out your system.

District Huddles

Two district-led huddles for discipleship training will be starting this month.  Andy Geffers will be leading a huddle for men – pastors, staff and lay leaders – on Tuesday mornings, 9-10 AM.  Shelley Moulton will be leading a mixed-gender huddle, also for pastors, staff, spouses and lay leaders – on Wednesday evenings, 7-8 PM. These huddles are held via on-line video-conferencing so you can participate from the comfort of your own home or office. If you or someone you know might be interested in a huddle, please let us know.

Greenhouse Training

We are looking for churches within the region that will act as greenhouses for the development of pastors and international workers.  This is typically a one to two year apprenticeship where the individual gets practical experience working alongside the church staff and congregation. Ideally, the person will be deployed for ministry within New England or go as one sent from the New England District. Find out more information by joining us March 29, 2017 for an informational and training day in Madison, CT (more details to follow).  No prior experience is necessary and remember that few things invigorate a leader or church more than intentionally investing in the next generation!  Have questions? Email Tom Flanders at tom@alliancenewengland.org

Children’s Ministry Training

A one-day training event for Children’s ministry leaders and teams is being held on March 4, 2017 in Derry, NH.  Visit Lead Kids for more information or to register. (Lead Kids is a ministry of Berea, a camp and expanding ministry that Alliance New England has partnered with through the years for camps, retreats and other programs.

Superintendent Sabbatical

During the months of June-August 2017, Tom will be taking a sabbatical.  District staff will be available to assist you during this time.
